Local hospice companies

There are thousands of hospice providers nationwide, including non-profit, for-profit, and governmental providers. Keep in mind that the majority of hospice care is provided at a person's home. Look for a hospice near the location of the person in need of hospice. The city or town listed with a hospice should be in the same general area. State hospice organizations can answer questions about services and options available in your state. Many state associations also provide their own online hospice directories.

Support Groups

Support groups are offered as a space where individuals can come together to share their stories, experiences, and lives in a way that helps reduce isolation and loneliness. Oftentimes, we think we are struggling alone, but support groups help us see that others may be dealing with similar situations and who in turn can help us get better.

Subacute Facilities

Subacute care is provided on an inpatient basis for those individuals needing services that are more intensive than those typically received in skilled nursing facilities but less intensive than acute care. For a patient to qualify for inpatient rehabilitation they must be able to tolerate 3 hours of therapy per day (speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, physical therapy) at least 5 days per week. If the person cannot tolerate this much therapy or no longer requires therapy at this intensive level, they may be better served at the subacute level.

Assisted Living Facilities

An assisted living facility is a senior living option for those with minimal needs for assistance with daily living and care. Its purpose is to help adults live independently in a safe environment.

Aging in place is the option that most seniors prefer, but sometimes it is not the safest one to choose. If a person is unable to take care of their daily activity needs, like dressing, bathing, cooking, shopping, paying bills, and taking medications, it's time to rethink aging in place.

Handicap Services

A person with a disability is an individual with a disability that incidentally results in persistent and significant disability. As a result, a person with a disability, whether a man or a woman, generally encounters obstacles in carrying out all the so-called routine activities. Of course, there is a body that protects the rights of these individuals and highlights the laws in place to defend them in several cases.
